Supported Independent Living (SIL)

There are a lot of different support options available to people with disability and finding the right one can be daunting. At Windgap, we offer SIL services for participants with SIL funding in their NDIS plan. SIL is a type of support that nurtures personal growth in a home environment and cultivates a sense of belonging in the community. It is most commonly used in shared homes and includes support staff but does not cover costs like rent, food or activities outside the house.

Like all NDIS supports, SIL is designed to maximise independence and empower people to pursue their goals and interests. The level of support is personalised to each participant and scaled back as they grow in independence, ensuring that the individual has the autonomy they want and deserve. Unlike short term accommodation (STA), SIL is not funded through the core supports budget and must be funded through an individual’s dedicated SIL budget.

Specialised Transport

NDIS participants can access specialised transport services to assist them with their day-to-day activities. This can include assisting with school transport, shopping trips, and a range of other community activities. These services are designed to improve social inclusion and foster independence by reducing dependence on others.

Council Link services are available across the region and cost $2 per person for a one-way trip. Most buses on the Sunshine Coast allow easy access for people with disabilities and their carers. Simply wait at the assisted boarding point near the guard’s cabin when disembarking.

High Intensity Care

If a person has a stoma, trained disability care workers help them to feed through the tube, monitor their skin condition and stoma care, follow a wound care plan, replace and clean dressings, check for signs of infection and respond to blockages or dislodged catheters. They also assist with other specialised activities such as medication management and behaviour support.

Wound Care

Our wound care team is a highly specialised service that offers specialised treatment and support for those with chronic wounds. They follow a comprehensive wound management plan that is tailored to each individual’s needs. Their services include wound dressings, assisting with hoist and sling transfers, swab assessments and more. They also work closely with GP practices and Skin Clinics to provide wound consultation and education to clients.
